Publishing in the Repository

The Repository of the University of Greifswald offers its members the option to publish or republish in Open Access, for example dissertations. Scientists can also republish their articles in Green Open Access. You can find more information on your right to self-archive (Zweitveröffentlichungsrecht) here. It is also possible to publish entire series of publications from the University of Greifswald on the repository.
For selected publishers, the data of original Gold Open Access publications (e.g. articles, monographs, preprints or conference reports) is automatically imported to the repository via DeepGreen.

To publish in the repository, please note the following information:

  1. Fill out the online publication form.
  2. In addition, send a scanned copy of the signed publication agreement by email, post or fax to the address specified in the agreement.

Publication Agreement

By signing the publication agreement, you grant the University Library of Greifswald the permanent and irrevocable right to make the electronic version of your publication available free of charge and publicly on the internet and on the repository as an Open Access publication.
However, this agreement does not grant any further rights of use that regulate the conditions under which your publication may be used by third parties. You should regulate this with licences that are as open as possible, e.g. Creative Commons licences. In its Open Access policy, the University of Greifswald recommends the use of the CC BY 4.0 licence. Provided that the name of the author/copyright holder is mentioned, this licence allows the content to be reproduced, distributed and publicly performed. Edits may be made and distributed. The content may be used commercially. This licence ensures the maximum dissemination and reuse of your work and removes barriers to the dissemination of knowledge in the field of research, e.g. to enable edits of the work in another language.

More information on licences and copyright can be found here.

Document Requirements

Publication in the repository takes place in form of a PDF document. We recommend using the long-term archivable PDF/A format.
You can find instructions on how to do this on the website of the University Library Frankfurt (German).

For monographs and series we refer you to the Corporate Design of the University of Greifswald. These requirements should be met as a minimum standard.

We recommend ensuring accessibility already during the creation of the document. You can find out which settings you need to consider when creating an accessible PDF-document in the Guidelines zur Erstellung barrierearmer Inhalte für Repositorien (German) of RepManNet.

Publication of Final Theses

Theses written by students at the University of Greifswald can also be published on the repository. They must meet the following quality requirements:

  • They must be master's, diploma or state examination theses (no bachelor's theses).
  • The grade for the thesis must be between 1.0 and 1.3
  • A recommendation for publication must be provided by the supervisor.

Proof of the grade and the recommendation can be provided, for example, by email from the supervisor.

It is possible to make corrections based on feedback from the reviews.

What is Green Open Access?

Green Open Access is the additional publication of a publication in institutional or subject-specific repositories. Publications that were first published in a subscription journal or by a publisher are thus made available free of charge. Depending on the publisher's policy and conditions, this can happen simultaneously or after an embargo period. You can find more information on Green Open Access here.
